Whether it’s divesting from fossil fuels or boycotting goods tainted by human rights abuses, the ability to boycott and divest is essential in the fight for a greener, fairer future.
But this is under threat. A new law could impact public bodies capacity to boycott goods produced by foreign states on human rights or environmental grounds. Public bodies could be punished for divesting from fossil fuels produced by companies owned by foreign states.
Public institutions must have their ability to invest or divest for ethical reasons protected.
