Our right to peaceful protest is under attack, at a critical time for us to speak up about the climate crisis and environmental justice. We must act now to defend our right to protest.
The previous government gave police broad powers over peaceful demonstrations, restricting "noisy" protests or branding those standing up for the planet as a "public nuisance". Jail time for such actions was unheard of until recently, but it's now increasingly common.
These limits on non-violent protest are have a chilling impact on our ability to speak truth to power, whether on climate, environmental justice or international causes like Palestine.
We must act now to protect our rights and reverse the latest limits on peaceful protest. We must demand this government does better – before we're unable to speak out.
