Tell your MP – our new chancellor must cut bills and emissions

The UK is getting a new prime minister in a few weeks’ time. And one of their first decisions will be to appoint a chancellor.

The chancellor decides how public money is spent. If we want the new-look government to protect people from the climate crisis and spiralling energy bills, it’s vital the new PM picks the right person for the job.

Our use of fossil fuels is driving both the climate and cost-of-living crises. And the people hardest hit are often those least able to cope with the impacts. Investment in solutions like homegrown renewable energy can protect households from volatile energy prices, while cutting the emissions driving extreme weather events.

This appointment will be the difference between words and action.

Bold promises aren’t enough. If the new prime minister wants to improve lives in every community, they need to protect people from the impacts of both the cost-of-living crisis and the climate crisis. And they need a chancellor who will fund action.

Ask your MP to urge our new prime minister to appoint a chancellor who knows raising living standards means tackling the impacts of the climate crisis – and that requires real investment.
