Last year, the government promised to crack down on water pollution. But without public pressure, its plans could once again let big polluters off the hook.
We should all be able to enjoy clean lakes, rivers and seas bursting with wildlife. But in too many places across the country, that’s far from reality.
Whether it’s water companies pumping sewage into our seas, toxic slurry from factory farms or forever chemicals seeping into waterways – polluters are still contaminating our water. Meanwhile, our bills keep rising, while shareholders pocket massive profits.
This year brings a chance to turn things around. A new water bill is coming soon, which could finally hold polluters to account and put clean, safe water before profit. But without public pressure, there’s a risk this new law will let them off the hook once more.
We can’t let that happen. If we speak out now, we can make sure the bill is strong enough to crack down on water pollution once and for all.
