The fight to stop new oil and gas is heating up. And it’s a fight we can’t afford to lose.
After a summer of record-breaking heatwaves, climate breakdown is impossible to ignore. Yet Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering giving the green light to Rosebank, a huge new oil field off Shetland – a move that would lock us into decades more climate-wrecking oil extraction.
And despite promising to ban fracking for good, the government is yet to deliver. Existing loopholes could still allow fracking to return, putting communities at risk of earthquakes and environmental damage and extracting more of the gas that’s heating up our planet.
New oil and gas won’t lower our bills or make us more energy secure. Most of the oil from Rosebank would be exported, while oil companies pocket the profits. We need to move beyond fossil fuels now – with a fair transition that gives workers and communities good, green jobs and cheaper energy bills while protecting our climate.
We’ve won before, and we can win again. Ask your MP to say no to new oil and gas. That means no to Rosebank and a full, permanent ban on fracking.
