Whether it’s divesting from fossil fuels or boycotting goods tainted by human rights abuses, the right to boycott and divest is essential in the fight for a greener, fairer future.
But this right is under threat. A new law could ban public bodies from boycotting goods produced by foreign states on human rights or environmental grounds. Councils and universities could be punished for divesting from fossil fuels produced by companies owned by foreign states.
Public institutions must have their right to invest or divest for ethical reasons protected.
