  A third runway at Heathrow would mean more flights, more carbon emissions and more air and noise pollution for communities living near the airport. It would also harm people's health and wellbeing, putting more pressure on the NHS – at a time when we're already facing the impacts of climate breakdown.

  But what about the economy? Despite claims made by the government, the economic case for Heathrow expansion is far from clear. It could cost the UK economy billions, while doing little to benefit communities outside the South East. Expanding airports won't make flying cheaper and the benefits are likely to flow mainly to frequent flyers and shareholders – while the rest of us pay the social and environmental costs.
