Support a fair transition away from fossil fuels

Last autumn, thousands of us helped win a big step forward at the UN climate talks. We got energy secretary Ed Miliband to commit the UK government to the Belém Action Mechanism (BAM). Named after the place the talks were held, the BAM is about making the shift from fossil fuels fairer, so no one is left behind.

The plan aims to make sure the transition from fossil fuels delivers real benefits for people − like affordable clean energy and secure, well-paid jobs.

This June, governments from around the world will meet to decide how it will work. But there’s a risk that some richer countries will try to water down the agreement, undoing the progress made last year.

Together, we got Miliband to back the BAM. Now we need him to stand firm and keep supporting a strong and ambitious agreement.

Ask Ed Miliband to continue supporting a strong Belém Action Mechanism, for a fairer transition away from fossil fuels.
