As we face worsening climate, nature and cost-of-living crises, the UK government should be doing all it can to empower communities. Yet instead, Prime Minister Sunak is pushing ahead with plans that could further weaken our basic human rights.
Dramatic changes to UK law could be ushered through parliament in the coming weeks. If passed, the Public Order Bill would threaten our democratic right to protest.
And now the Home Secretary is championing an even more extreme measure – leaving the European Convention on Human Rights. Which would remove our most fundamental human rights and restrict justice.
But we have a chance to stop these measures and protect our rights and freedoms.
The government was defeated eight times by the Lords, who removed stop and search without suspicion and “protest banning orders” for innocent people from the Bill. But now MPs could undo almost all of these changes.
MPs need to be told that their constituents don’t want these repressive policies to become law, or for any more of our rights to be stripped away.
Write to your MP now and urge them to protect our rights before it’s too late.
